fix(#10373,#10371,#10370): remote newEdge veto, refused catalog queries, information_schema data_type - #10470
Conversation
…dException, an unmodelled catalog relation is refused with 0A000, data_type is the SQL name #10373: RemoteVertex.newEdge read the CREATE EDGE answer with an unguarded next(), so a before-create veto (no row) reached the caller as a bare NoSuchElementException. It now raises RecordVetoedException with the message the embedded engine builds (RecordVetoedException.ofCreateEdge, shared with GraphEngine). Same shape fixed in countEdges (missing vertex) and moveTo, which was also unreachable: RemoteImmutableVertex.moveToType called itself, RemoteMutableVertex reached for an embedded database, and the bucket spelling of the statement was not valid SQL. A source scan fails on a new unguarded next()/nextIfAvailable() in the remote packages. #10371: a catalog query over a relation the emulation does not model was answered with an empty result set, so an ungrouped count(*) lost its one row. The executor now refuses it with SQLSTATE 0A000 naming the relation. The one deliberate shim left is the driver type-resolution probe (a query over pg_type and the relations a driver joins to it, no aggregate), whose empty answer is 'no such type'. pg_class.relhasindex and pg_tables.hasindexes answer false while pg_index is unmodelled. #10370: information_schema.columns.data_type answers the SQL standard name (ARRAY for an array) through the new PostgresType.sqlName(), which format_type and regtype read too; the precision columns are written and numeric_precision_radix is NULL for a non-number.

Points to consider
Overall this is a solid, well-tested change. Points 1 and 2 are the ones I'd look at before merge. |

ReviewOverall this is a solid, well-documented change. The tests are thorough: regression tests per issue, a source-scan guard against new unguarded What looks good
Points to consider (non-blocking)
No security concerns: refusals don't echo user SQL, only the relation name taken from the tokens. The new tests use the project's server fixtures and don't hard-code ports. LGTM, pending CI. |

Summary
Fixes #10373, #10371 and #10370.
#10373 - a vetoed remote newEdge
RemoteVertex.newEdgeread theCREATE EDGEanswer with an unguardednext(). A before-create veto answers no row, so the caller got a bareNoSuchElementException. It now raisesRecordVetoedExceptionnaming the edge type and both endpoints, with the message the embedded engine builds (RecordVetoedException.ofCreateEdge, now shared withGraphEngine).countEdgesof a missing vertex, andmoveTo, which was in fact unreachable (RemoteImmutableVertex.moveToTypecalled itself,RemoteMutableVertexreached for an embedded database it does not have, and the bucket spelling of the statement was not valid SQL). Both remote vertices now go to the server and raiseRecordNotFoundExceptionfor a missing vertex.Issue10373RemoteUnguardedNextTest) fails on a new unguardednext()/nextIfAvailable()in the remote packages unless it is audited with the reason its answer is never empty.#10371 - catalog queries over an unmodelled relation
0A000naming the relation, on both protocols and for bound parameters at Execute, instead of an empty result that read as an empty catalog (an ungroupedcount(*)lost its one row; psql \di and psqlodbc SQLPrimaryKeys/SQLStatistics reported nothing). Any answer without rows is a refusal by construction, so a new refusal reason cannot fall back to the empty answer.pg_class.relhasindexandpg_tables.hasindexesanswer false whilepg_indexis unmodelled, so\dis not sent into a refused query.pg_typeand the relations a driver joins to it, no aggregate). pgjdbc sends seven such lookups in shapes the evaluator cannot compute, and an error would failgetTypeInfo(). Its empty answer is "no such type", which the drivers handle.#10370 - information_schema.columns.data_type
data_typeis the SQL standard name (integer, character varying,ARRAYfor an array), read from the newPostgresType.sqlName()thatformat_typeandregtypeuse too.udt_namekeeps thepg_typename.numeric_precision,numeric_scale,datetime_precisionandcharacter_octet_lengthare written for built-in types, andnumeric_precision_radixis NULL for a non-number.Behaviour change to review
A catalog shape this server cannot answer now fails with
0A000where it used to return an empty set. The postgresw integration suite (477 ITs: JDBC, Arrow ADBC and psqlodbc shapes) passes; a client that probes a catalog relation outside that coverage and relied on the empty answer would now see the error.Test plan
