After the support request form was sent, Admin was meant to add a thank-you message to the help chat and reopen it, but neither happened. DocsBot only renders the chat panel that handles addBotMessage() while the widget is open, and the widget is closed when the form opens. With no panel the message is dropped and the promise never settles, so the call to reopen the widget after it was never reached.

Admin now reopens the widget first and then adds the message. The panel may not have rendered when open() resolves, and DocsBot doesn't expose a way to wait for it, so each attempt to add the message times out after 250ms and is retried, up to 8 times. A dropped message is discarded immediately and a delivered one is confirmed almost at once, so a retry doesn't show the message twice.

Walkthrough

The DocsBot hook now retries message delivery after timed-out SDK calls and returns a boolean result. Tests cover retries and failure cases. The widget host now awaits widget opening before adding an updated confirmation message, and logs failed message insertion.

Full details: Type-Safe Boundaries

Explanation

The PR consumes the external DocsBot SDK response in addBotMessageWhenReady without runtime validation. At apps/admin/src/docsbot/use-docsbot.ts:306-317, the Promise.race result is treated as successful whenever it is not the timeout sentinel and not false. An unexpected SDK value such as true or a string therefore passes as success. The declared Promise<void | false> type is compile-time only and does not validate the runtime SDK response.

Resolution

Validate the DocsBot SDK result at the boundary before using it. Accept only the documented undefined or false result, or parse the response with an appropriate Zod schema. Treat every other resolved value as invalid and handle it as a failed message delivery.

After the support request form was sent, Admin was meant to add a

DocsBot only renders the chat panel that handles `addBotMessage()` while

Admin now reopens the widget first and then adds the message. The panel

Prevent timed-out addBotMessage calls from producing duplicate messages.

Promise.race does not cancel window.DocsBotAI.addBotMessage(message). If the SDK adds the message after the 250 ms timeout, the retry loop can start another call and add the same confirmation more than once. Use an SDK cancellation mechanism, or prevent retries unless the SDK guarantees that timed-out calls cannot later add the message.

## Compatibility and infrastructure transitions

### Node.js

Ghost currently supports Node.js 22 and 24. CI tests both supported lines, and
new code and dependencies must work on both. The longer-term direction is to
keep pace with Node Current, but dropping an existing version is an explicit
compatibility and release decision.

`pnpm format` with no arguments formats the whole repository, and

Learning: Admin UI in Ghost is intentionally not localized. During code review, do not request adding i18n/translation hooks, wrappers, or new locale keys (e.g., updates to `packages/i18n/locales/en/ghost.json`) for Admin UI strings, including any React components under `apps/admin/src/`.

The DocsBot help chat in Admin was an experiment, and the support
requests endpoint only existed so its support form could hand a chat
off to a person.

This removes the help chat and its `docsbot` config, the support
request form, and the `/support_requests` Admin API endpoint with its
service and rate limit.
