Docs conflict: Agent SDK overview note vs. legal page carve-out for subscription sign-in #512
Two Anthropic pages appear to give different answers for the same architecture, and a store reviewer is holding our listing until it is resolved.
Agent SDK overview (note under Get started):
Unless previously approved, Anthropic does not allow third party developers to offer claude.ai login or rate limits for their products, including agents built on the Claude Agent SDK.
Legal and compliance (Authentication and credential use):
Nor does it prevent an end user from signing in to the unmodified Claude Code binary with their own Claude subscription, including where a platform hosts Claude Code as described under Can customers offer Claude Code in their products? above.
The October 7, 2026 update to the Help Center article "Use the Claude Agent SDK with your Claude plan" also says the Agent SDK and third-party apps can still run on subscription limits.
Our architecture (UE-MCP Studio, open source, MIT):
Studio runs the Agent SDK with pathToClaudeCodeExecutable set to the unmodified Claude Code binary, installed from npm and hash-checked.
Subscription sign-in spawns the binary's own auth login --claudeai with stdio ignored. Anthropic's browser flow completes the sign-in. No URL, code or token passes through Studio.
Status and sign-out use the binary's auth status --json and auth logout.
Studio never reads, stores or transmits credentials. The user's environment passes through unchanged, so API key and other built-in methods stay available.
Each user's usage bills to their own plan. Studio does not pay for, resell or intermediate usage.
