Audio popping/cracking in left audio channel on every item pickup in Monster Hunter Freedom and Freedom Unite #19640
ULUS10084 : Monster Hunter Freedom and ULUS10391 : Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
What area of the game / PPSSPP
Anytime you gather an item in either of these games it plays a gather jingle. Every single time this sound plays in the game the audio pops/cracks very faintly on the left audio channel only. No other sound I've encountered in either of these games so far does this. It is specifically the gathering jingle whenever you pick up an item from anywhere in the game. I should point out it might be hard to hear it happening unless you're wearing headphones and is seemingly more noticeable if the volume is not at max.
What should happen
In older builds of ppsspp this audio pop/crack did not happen and I went looking for which build that this audio issue seemed to first appear in. It started in build v1.17.1-268-gc3485d7f6a "Remove ffmpeg use from the sceAtrac HLE module" and is still present all the way to v1.18.1-124-g489db6b92c. It's thankfully not a game breaking issue, but it is very annoying when you notice it and makes playing a bit exhausting on the ears. I also checked to see if it happened in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd which thankfully it does not happen there but that's probably because the jingle is completely different. I assume they use the exact same sound file for the jingle for freedom and freedom unite (and probably freedom 2 but I did not check) and it seems this specific audio just isn't playing correctly compared to older builds.
Finally got around to making recordings of this happening. Current build recorded on is 1.18.1-525 and the last correctly functioning build is 1.17.1-264
I did not load from a savestate and don't make save states for monster hunter games since I like to play on fan multiplayer servers where using them is not allowed. Using a dev build from earlier today I can still hear the noise and I can also hear the noise from the wav file you uploaded. It's hard to hear since it seems to get drowned out at 100% volume but I can hear it very clearly from the 30-50% volume range. I shared your wav with a couple other people on separate computers to see if it's not a hardware issue and they both told me they could hear it too.
To my ears, they sound identical and there's no annoying click in either. I used my biggest highest quality headphones.
But then again, I also listened to a bunch of the clips above and I struggle hearing much of a difference.
I don't know what else to do, to be honest. I carefully inspected the waveforms too, and there are no clicks characteristic of typical audio processing glitches.

Thanks for the recordings! I'll have to look into this.

I've been ignoring this for a good while but it's increasingly more noticeable as i spend more time playing the game.

Sadly the audio pop is still there on gathers with experimental atrac enabled.

@aeroallways2 hi, did you load from a savestate in that video? Then it'll keep using the old sceAtrac.
Do an in-game save, restart and reload. Good idea to do from time to time anyway.
I just tried this, and I don't hear any noticable left channel glitch. Here's a loopback recording:

I recorded that from Monster Hunter Freedom 2, carving the animals in the first training mission.

Really confused. I inspected the waveform and there's simply no left-channel click to be found.
I'll add muting options to the debugger so we can isolate the sound soon.

Here's a new recording I made with the new tools in #20242 :

Should now be more accurate to hardware than ever. I'm gonna close.
