New Behavior option in Nemo 6.7.4+alfa causes failure-on-open loop #3807

Description

Distribution

Mint 23 alfa

Package version

Nemo 6.7.4+alfa

Frequency

Always

Bug description

This may be a duplicate of issue 3742, but that does not reference the new Behavior option.

"Restore last window tabs on startup" is a new option in Nemo 6.7.4+alfa Preferences Behavior. If the folder remembered by a single tab is deleted by another process after the Nemo window is closed, any attempt to open Nemo without naming a new target causes non-recoverable failure: Could not find "...rememberedfolder...". Please check the spelling and try again.

Steps to reproduce

Open two Nemo single tab windows (e.g. click on Files in Panel)
In one window create a new folder, open into that folder, close that window
In the other window delete the folder created in the first window
Open a new Nemo window without naming a target (e.g. click on Files in Panel)

Image

Expected behavior

After the error message Nemo should either forget the missing target name and/or default to /home/$USER

Additional information

(I am testing Alfa upgraded from Zena in VirtualBox VM, as shown how in various Youtube videos. This is the only problem found so far in the full system install of all my apps. Nice!)

    Distribution
Mint 27 Adrien (by upgrading sources from 22.3 zena); bare metal install

    Package
    Nemo 6.7.8

The bug is this still in this version of nemo, reproducible by the steps given previously.

I'd like to add the following observation...

    Steps to reproduce

    1. open one nemo window, create a new folder, enter into that folder, then close that window.
    2. open terminal and remove that directory
    3. launch Nemo again

-> Nemo shows the error message but does still open its window and defaults to the HOME directory, as I would expect.

I can reproduce the error message - this is more or less expected. And, as @Hawaiihemd notes, the location defaults to Home instead, again, expected.

Even with a single tab opened to that location, close nemo, delete the folder, re-launch nemo: again the popup error, and the view defaults to Home.

Nothing about this says unrecoverable or a loop - can you elaborate?

    @Hawaiihemd

Well I can't speak for the OP, but if one follows their steps exactly, the second nemo window does not open/crash after the GUI error message.

That is why I pointed out the different (and expected) behavior, if no other nemo window remains open.

Okay, "loop" may have been the wrong word to use. "Consistent failure" is more appropriate.

I upgraded my 23 Alfa test system to 27 Adrien. If I follow the exact same steps in my original post, I still can not open nemo after the error unless I specify a target in a terminal. Consistent failure to open! I must either close the second window (thereby resetting the last-open memory) or I must specify "nemo ~/"

In my testing if I close all windows and delete the test folder in a terminal, nemo does NOT default to $HOME after the error ... it keeps trying to open /home/$USER/test1
