Newcomers currently reach the first-task instructions after the full machine-effects disclosure. This README-only change brings installation, prerequisite checks, permission choices, launch and one bounded task together at the top. The disclosure link remains before the first command; its complete text, requirements and upgrade instructions are preserved.

It also adds community help and contribution routes, describes the one-day acknowledgement as an aim, and labels llms.txt as a documentation index. Authentication and readiness checks precede assignment, and the shared-dashboard guidance explains how to return without relaunching the team.

Validation: checked the complete README and diff against the existing getting-started and permission guides; verified unchanged disclosure/requirements/upgrade sections, local paths and anchors, shell-example syntax, and the repository docs guard. Read-only requests reached all added public routes; GitHub's issue chooser requires sign-in. This documentation change does not establish a new install, runtime or interactive-form test result.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Reworked the launch instructions to cover prerequisites, setup and launch plans, authentication, seat readiness, and assigning a task.
    • Added guidance for upgrading existing instances, including migration phases, verification, rollback scope, and retained legacy data.
    • Added a community section and updated links. Clarified that web UI support is best-effort.

Adapt the planning draft with prerequisite ordering, explicit response targets
and documentation-index wording. Preserve machine-effects and upgrade text.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to e5e7e

New users may choose an EOL Node.js version from the install instructions. Direct new installations to Node.js 22 or 24 while retaining Node.js 20 for compatibility.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to e5e7e

The new first-run instructions prominently offer Node.js 20, an end-of-support runtime. This could steer new installations toward it, but the change does not add runtime support or alter installation controls.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: Putting end-of-support Node.js 20 in the first installation prerequisite may lead more new users to choose it. This is a change in guidance prominence, not newly introduced runtime support or a demonstrated change in installed-user exposure.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The possible incremental exposure is users choosing Node.js 20 after reading the newly prominent fresh-install prerequisite. The supplied evidence does not establish how many do so or identify a newly reachable service, tenant, credential, or data store.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — Two retained, reportable security findings identify the Node.js 20 guidance at the same README line. The version was already supported before this PR; the PR makes it prominent at first install. No specific attacker input, exploit, or resulting privilege gain is established by the available source.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Installing and launching the local rig crosses into provider integration and workspace trust configuration. The README discloses those effects before its first command and calls for explicit permission selection and readiness checks before assigning agent work.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The documented upgrade does not direct users to retry a partial mutation blindly. Receipt checks, source and configuration drift checks, and rollback preservation remain part of the unchanged helper-backed recovery path.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Prefer maintained Node.js releases in the first-install recommendation and distinguish any continuing Node.js 20 compatibility from a recommendation for new installations.

Do not present Node.js 20 as a normal new-install option.

Node.js 20 reached EOL on April 30, 2026 and no longer receives upstream security fixes. The base README already listed Node.js 20 as supported, but this change moves that guidance into the install instructions and materially promotes it for new users. Keep Node.js 20 for compatibility, but direct new installations to maintained LTS releases.

Proposed wording
-Requires Node.js 20, 22 or 24 and tmux.
+For new installations, use Node.js 22 or 24 LTS and tmux. Keep Node.js 20 as a legacy compatibility target.
