NO-JIRA: networking: verify node-local VM egress across UDN live migration - #31805
Create two guests on one node and migrate only one of them. Send marked HTTP requests from inside the guests to a test-managed route and inspect packet captures for the hosting node's SNAT address. Check both guests before migration, the stationary guest during migration, and both guests consistently afterward, for each enabled IP family.
Existing networking migration tests verify address persistence and east-west connectivity. The sig-kubevirt tests cover hosted-cluster node readiness and service connectivity. Neither asserts this two-guest, node-local north-south egress behavior.
Added coverage for network egress from virtual machines using primary Layer 2 networking during live migration. The test checks that a stationary VM maintains egress while another VM migrates, and verifies each VM’s traffic uses the internal IP address of its hosting node.
Virtual machine test templates now support configurable memory, defaulting to 2048M when no value is specified, and can target specified nodes for placement.

The VM templates render the supplied memory value, with an empty value defaulting to 2048M. When NodeNames is nonempty, the primary-UDN VM template requires scheduling on a matching node.
Migration egress test and capture helpers test/extended/networking/livemigration.go
The test selects two ready, schedulable nodes and checks egress for migrating and stationary VMs before, during, and after migration. Capture helpers start node packet sniffers and verify observed source IPs against node internal IPs.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the main change: an e2e test that verifies node-local VM egress across UDN live migration. It also carries the NO-JIRA prefix. The PR adds a test for two guests, one migrated, and checks the SNAT address of the hosting node. The title is specific and matches the changeset, so it passes.
Full details: Stable And Deterministic Test Names
Explanation
PASS: The pull request adds static Ginkgo titles only: "primary UDN migration egress" and "should consistently egress through each VM's own node while another VM migrates". The titles contain no generated identifiers, node names, namespaces, IP addresses, timestamps, UUIDs, or legacy metadata tokens. Dynamic values remain in the test body and error messages.
Full details: Topology-Aware Scheduling Compatibility
Explanation
PASS. The pull request changes only extended networking test code and VM test templates. It adds required node affinity to selected node names, not control-plane or worker role labels. The test obtains ready, schedulable, untainted nodes, skips when fewer than two exist, and therefore excludes an arbiter node. It adds no anti-affinity, topology spread, replica-count, maxUnavailable, or PDB settings. The existing Deployment and DaemonSet helper definitions are unchanged.
Full details: Ote Binary Stdout Contract
Explanation
PASS: The pull request adds no process-level stdout writes. The new suite registers with Ginkgo and runs its operational code inside It; helpers use returned errors, Ginkgo assertions, and packet-capture data. The only command output call, oc.AsAdmin().Run(...).Output(), captures output into a buffer, as confirmed by CLI.Output(). The template changes also contain no logging or stdout calls. No main, TestMain, suite setup, RunSpecs, klog, or fmt.Print* code was added.
Full details: Ipv6 And Disconnected Network Test Compatibility
Explanation
The new test adapts to the cluster IP family with GetIPAddressFamily and correctCIDRFamily. It selects node internal IPs by the active family and uses a cluster ingress Route hostname, not an interpolated IP URL. The packet-log helper supports both IPv4 and IPv6 formats. The Fedora image is passed through image.LocationFor, which maps approved images to the configured test repository; the route backend and packet sniffer use existing cluster test-image mechanisms. No public internet endpoint or IPv4-only assumption is introduced.
Full details: No-Weak-Crypto
Explanation
No weak cryptography or custom cryptography was introduced. The PR changes only VM templates and a live-migration egress test. The new UUID is used as a unique request marker; strings.Contains scans logs for that marker, which is not a secret or authentication token. The changed files contain no MD5, SHA-1, DES, 3DES, RC4, Blowfish, ECB, or constant-time comparison issue.
Full details: Container-Privileges
Explanation
The pull request newly activates privileged capture resources. startVMEgressCaptures grants the privileged SCC to the capture namespace's default service account at test/extended/networking/livemigration.go:949, then calls createPacketSnifferDaemonSet. That unchanged helper creates pods with HostNetwork: true and RunAsUser: 0 in test/extended/networking/egressip_helpers.go:496-528. The changed test therefore introduces a direct path to privileged SCC use, host networking, and root execution. No changed code uses hostPID, hostIPC, or SYS_ADMIN.
Resolution
Replace the privileged SCC grant and host-networked root packet sniffer with a least-privilege capture design. Grant only the capabilities and access required for packet capture. Do not run the capture container as UID 0 unless the implementation documents and requires that exception.
Full details: No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs
Explanation
The concern remains present and is introduced by the new test path. The new checkVMEgress caller at livemigration.go:1007 is absent from the base revision and invokes scanPacketSnifferDaemonSetPodLogs. That helper logs pod.Spec.NodeName and the raw packet line with framework.Logf at egressip_helpers.go:595; the raw line can contain captured IP and port data. New failure messages also include node names, internal IPs, and the generated route host at livemigration.go:453, 994, 1003, and 1015. The curl command passed to client.Console includes the route host and marker, and its error is propagated.
Resolution
Do not log raw packet-capture lines or node names. Use generic node indexes or redacted identifiers. Remove route hosts and internal IPs from error messages. Do not propagate the full curl command through VM console errors. Keep only the VM name, IP family, and a generic failure reason.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 33.33% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 3 functions across 2 files.
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
Full details: Test Structure And Quality
Explanation
The new test grants the privileged SCC to the capture namespace's default service account at test/extended/networking/livemigration.go:949, but it never removes that cluster-scoped SCC authorization. Namespace cleanup is registered by CreateNamespaceUDN and f.CreateNamespace, so namespaced VMs, UDNs, routes, and sniffers are covered. The SCC mutation remains after the test, including after failure. The new test also has bounded waits and meaningful messages; the missing ote.Informing() marker is only a recommendation and is not a failure.
Resolution
Register cleanup immediately after the successful SCC grant, using DeferCleanup or the test's AfterEach, and run oc adm policy remove-scc-from-user privileged -z default -n <capture-namespace>. Ensure the cleanup runs when later setup or assertions fail.
Full details: Microshift Test Compatibility
Explanation
The pull request adds an unprotected live-migration test that requires two ready, schedulable nodes. The test calls GetBoundedReadySchedulableNodes(..., 2) and only skips after finding fewer than two nodes. This is incompatible with MicroShift's single-node topology. The test has [apigroup:route.openshift.io], but Route is available on MicroShift, and it has no [Skipped:MicroShift] label or IsMicroShiftCluster() guard.
Resolution
MicroShift compatibility notice: This test uses a multi-node live-migration assumption that is not available on MicroShift. If MicroShift jobs are not already included, verify the test with /payload-job periodic-ci-openshift-microshift-release-4.22-periodics-e2e-aws-ovn-ocp-conformance. If the test is intentionally not applicable, add [Skipped:MicroShift] to the test name or guard it with exutil.IsMicroShiftCluster() and g.Skip().
Full details: Single Node Openshift (Sno) Test Compatibility
Explanation
The new test assumes a multi-node cluster and has no accepted SNO protection. The PR adds a top-level Ginkgo test that requests two ready, schedulable nodes, pins the stationary VM to the first node, and requires the migrated VM to finish on a different node. The file contains no [Skipped:SingleReplicaTopology], exutil.IsSingleNode() with g.Skip(), skipOnSingleNodeTopology(), or control-plane topology guard. The test is introduced by this PR.
Resolution
Single Node OpenShift (SNO) compatibility notice: This test assumes a multi-node cluster and may fail on Single Node OpenShift deployments. Verify the test with /payload-job periodic-ci-openshift-release-master-ci-4.22-e2e-aws-upgrade-ovn-single-node. If the test does not apply to SNO, add [Skipped:SingleReplicaTopology] to its name or guard it with exutil.IsSingleNode() and g.Skip() (or the local skipOnSingleNodeTopology() helper).

Require an egress check before accepting migration completion.
CreateVMIM only applies the VMIM resource. Migration proceeds asynchronously. The polling callback can first run after migration completes, then check stationary egress and return "true". A disruption limited to migration can therefore pass unnoticed.
Record a successful egress check only while completion is not "true", and require that observation before accepting migration completion.

Reason: All changes are additive test-only code in test/extended/networking/ — no production code, build inputs, or dependencies are modified. Changed surfaces: 1. test/extended/networking/kubevirt/template.go: Adds NodeNames []string to CreationTemplateParams with a conditional template block ({{- if .NodeNames }}). The nil zero value means existing callers are unaffected — the affinity block is not rendered unless NodeNames is explicitly populated. 2. test/extended/networking/livemigration.go: Adds a new Ginkgo Describe block tagged [sig-network][Feature:Layer2LiveMigration][OCPFeatureGate:NetworkSegmentation][Suite:openshift/network/virtualization], plus two helper functions called only from that block. Why no candidate applies: - The new test requires KubeVirt/OpenShift Virtualization infrastructure with Layer 2 UDN and the NetworkSegmentation feature gate. No candidate deploys this environment. - The test is in [Suite:openshift/network/virtualization], which is not included in any general conformance, serial, or platform-specific suite run by the candidates. - The KubeVirt candidates (e2e-aws-ovn-kubevirt, e2e-baremetalds-kubevirt) run HyperShift KubeVirt conformance, a different suite. - No existing test behavior is modified — the struct field addition is additive and backward-compatible. - First-stage images, unit, lint, and verify all passed, confirming compilation and static checks. Coverage gap: No second-stage candidate can exercise the new [Suite:openshift/network/virtualization] test. This is a gap for reviewers to consider, not a reason to run an unrelated job.
/pipeline required: rerun the traditional second-stage set; in agentic mode, request Chai handoff immediately, before first-stage success or LGTM.
/pipeline remaining: run missing traditional second-stage tests; in agentic mode, request the same immediate Chai handoff.
Agentic handoff uses one gate per current PR HEAD SHA. Repeated commands, automatic events and restarts reuse it without reopening completed gates or restarting the response timeout.
/pipeline auto — enable automatic dispatch in LGTM mode.
/pipeline agentic-mode — restore configured agentic mode (closed beta, limited enrolled repositories); completed dispatch and traditional rerun commands stay unchanged until the next HEAD SHA.
/pipeline skip-agentic-mode — use traditional scheduling for this PR, including future pushes.
/pipeline mark-pipeline-gate [<HEAD>] — mark ci/pipeline-gate green, creating it if missing for trusted users; omitted HEAD means current HEAD. Does not run tests or override results.
Agentic mode triggers Chai only once per HEAD SHA. ci/pipeline-gate already exists for 72bd014661897a1189fa6ae11f38211ec1f24dd1. Repeating /pipeline required or /pipeline remaining will not trigger Chai again. This command does not reopen the gate or restart its response timeout.
For the normal 4.20 CI path, openshift/origin has e2e-aws-ovn-kubevirt and e2e-baremetalds-kubevirt presubmits on release-4.20 PRs, and that branch's origin config uses the 4.20 integration release. See the 4.20 presubmit job config and 4.20 origin config.
The new egress test isn't in origin/release-4.20 yet (branch source), so it needs to be ported onto a PR targeting that branch before those release-4.20 presubmits can exercise it.
The periodic-ci-openshift-release-main-cnv-nightly-4.20-deploy-azure-kubevirt-ovn run is a separate CNV Azure test: its config fetches openshift-cnv/cnv-ci from release-4.20 and runs make deploy_test; it is not this openshift/origin e2e.
If you want this current PR revision run against one specific 4.20 payload instead, send the full payload pullspec and choose AWS or bare metal; I can arrange a one-off run after you explicitly confirm the job and payload.

Reason: Empty selection — no candidate provides coverage for this test-only PR. Changed surfaces: • New test [sig-network][Feature:Layer2LiveMigration][OCPFeatureGate:NetworkSegmentation][Suite:openshift/network/virtualization] primary UDN migration egress in test/extended/networking/livemigration.go — requires KubeVirt deployed on the management cluster and the [Suite:openshift/network/virtualization] suite selector. • Template helper changes in test/extended/networking/kubevirt/template.go — adds optional Memory (defaults to existing "2048M") and NodeNames fields to CreationTemplateParams. Backward compatible: existing callers pass zero-values, producing identical YAML. Why no candidate applies: 1. The new test requires KubeVirt and the [Suite:openshift/network/virtualization] suite. No candidate deploys KubeVirt on the management cluster or runs this suite. 2. The kubevirt-annotated jobs (e2e-aws-ovn-kubevirt, e2e-baremetalds-kubevirt) match test/extended/kubevirt/, not the changed path test/extended/networking/kubevirt/. They run HyperShift KubeVirt conformance (hosted-cluster node readiness), not the networking virtualization suite. 3. Broad catch-all jobs (e2e-gcp-ovn, e2e-aws-ovn-fips, serial, microshift, metal-ipv6) run standard conformance or MicroShift suites without KubeVirt — the new test is skipped, and the template code is never called. 4. The template changes are exercised only when VMs are created via renderVMTemplate, which no non-KubeVirt job does. 5. First-stage builds confirmed compilation. No production code is changed. Coverage gap: the openshift/network/virtualization suite has no enrolled second-stage candidate in this repository's pipeline configuration.

I need to add this test to verify a downstream only patch in 4.20 openshift/ovn-kubernetes#3566
This e2e should pass on all versions > 4.20 until the above PR is in.
