Summary

The regional GCP volume test always created a 200Gi pd-standard disk with replication-type: regional-pd. On GCP Dedicated the default StorageClass is hyperdisk-balanced, so CreateVolume failed because diskTypes/pd-standard does not exist.

The spec now reads the default StorageClass for pd.csi.storage.gke.io and builds the regional volume from its type:

  • empty or pd-standard: pd-standard plus replication-type: regional-pd, 200Gi
  • pd-balanced or pd-ssd: the same type plus replication-type: regional-pd, 10Gi
  • hyperdisk-balanced: hyperdisk-balanced-high-availability, 10Gi, with no replication-type because that type is already regional
  • hyperdisk-throughput, hyperdisk-extreme, hyperdisk-ml, pd-extreme, and any other type: skip, because those types have no regional form
  • The test spec is renamed to regional disk should store data and sync across zones.

The C3/C4/N4 machine-family skip now applies only when the created disk is pd-standard. Those families can attach Hyperdisk Balanced High Availability, so the old BeforeEach skip would have bypassed Dedicated. If CreateVolume reports diskType resource cannot be found while the PVC is still unbound, the test skips immediately instead of waiting out the 15-minute pod timeout.

Test plan

  • go test ./test/extended/storage/ -count=1
  • Ran the spec locally on GCP; it passed

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Regional persistent disk coverage now accounts for supported disk types, expected sizes, and replication settings.
    • Tests now skip configurations without a compatible regional disk type or worker nodes. Provisioning events for unavailable disk types are handled separately from other startup failures, and pod cleanup is registered when applicable.
    • Coverage also includes additional machine families and verifies behavior when disk-type configuration is incomplete.

unrelated selection logic.
- Line 162: Update the branch using anyNodeLacksPDStandard to account for the

constraining pod placement. Preserve the existing checks for other disk types.

Walkthrough

The regional GCE PD test now derives disk type and claim size from the default StorageClass. It polls pod startup and checks PVC events for regional disk types unavailable in the region. Tests cover parameter mapping and event detection.

Changes

Regional GCE PD test

Layer / File(s) Summary
Regional volume selection and setup
test/extended/storage/gce_pd_regional.go, test/extended/storage/gce_pd_regional_test.go
The test maps supported default disk types to regional disk types and claim sizes. It checks StorageClass and machine-family eligibility. Tests cover the mappings, sizes, and replication parameters.
Pod startup and disk-type detection
test/extended/storage/gce_pd_regional.go, test/extended/storage/gce_pd_regional_test.go
Pod polling checks PVC events for an unavailable regional disk type while the claim is unbound. The test skips on that error and registers pod cleanup only when pod creation returns a pod. Tests cover event detection for pending and bound PVCs.

Full details: Stable And Deterministic Test Names

Explanation

PASS: The pull request changes the Ginkgo title to the static name regional disk should store data and sync across zones. The enclosing Describe title uses only stable suite labels. No changed test title contains generated identifiers, timestamps, node or namespace names, IP addresses, legacy metadata tokens, or other run-dependent values.

Full details: Test Structure And Quality

Explanation

The changed Ginkgo spec keeps cluster preconditions in BeforeEach and cleans created StorageClass, PVC, and pods with DeferCleanup. Pod readiness uses wait.PollUntilContextTimeout with a 15-minute limit. New assertions and error paths include diagnostic messages. The added Go tests are focused unit tests and use fake clients, so they create no cluster resources. The existing regional-disk It was renamed and extended; no new Ginkgo It block requires an informing marker.

Full details: Microshift Test Compatibility

Explanation

The PR adds no new Ginkgo declaration; it only renames the existing It and changes its storage logic. The added code uses Kubernetes core APIs (StorageClass, PVC, Pod, Event, Node) and standard client utilities. The added Go unit tests use fake core Kubernetes objects. The existing config.openshift.io checks and two-zone assumption were already present in the base test and are not introduced or worsened by this PR.

Full details: Single Node Openshift (Sno) Test Compatibility

Explanation

No new Ginkgo e2e test was added. The existing g.It test was modified, and its pre-existing BeforeEach still skips clusters with fewer than two zones. The added tests use Go's testing package, not Ginkgo. The multi-zone pod behavior was already present in the base revision, so this PR does not introduce a new SNO compatibility failure.

Full details: Topology-Aware Scheduling Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request changes only GCP CSI regional storage test code and its unit tests. It does not modify deployment manifests, operators, or controllers, and the diff adds no topology spread constraints, anti-affinity, replica settings, PDBs, control-plane selectors, or broad taint tolerations. The test's existing zone and worker/control-plane selection logic is not a new topology constraint covered by this check.

Full details: Ote Binary Stdout Contract

Explanation

No OTE stdout contract violation is introduced. The diff adds no main(), TestMain(), suite setup hook, klog output, log output, fmt.Print call, or os.Stdout write. The only logging calls are e2e.Logf calls inside the Ginkgo It body, which the check explicitly excludes. Other fmt usage only formats strings or errors.

Full details: Ipv6 And Disconnected Network Test Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request adds no IPv4 addresses, IPv4-only parsing, CIDRs, IP URL construction, or public host access. The Ginkgo test remains a GCP storage test that uses the cluster API and pod commands. The added unit tests are local Go tests and do not use network connectivity.

Full details: No-Weak-Crypto

Explanation

The pull request changes only GCP regional-volume test logic and unit tests. The diff adds no MD5, SHA1, DES, 3DES, RC4, Blowfish, or ECB usage, no custom cryptography, and no comparisons of secrets or tokens. The apparent search matches are ordinary terms such as node selectors and test descriptions.

Full details: Container-Privileges

Explanation

PASS: The pull request adds no privileged Kubernetes manifest settings. The reviewed diff has no added privileged, hostPID, hostNetwork, hostIPC, SYS_ADMIN, runAsUser: 0, or allowPrivilegeEscalation: true fields. The existing SecurityLevel: admissionapi.LevelPrivileged call remains unchanged, and the helper maps that level to Privileged: true; this behavior predates the pull request and is not caused by the changes.

Full details: No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs

Explanation

The pull request adds no logging of passwords, tokens, API keys, PII, session IDs, hostnames, or customer data. New messages contain only StorageClass name/type, pod name and phase, disk-type availability text, machine-family/type, and zone-related test diagnostics. The event message is used only when it contains the fixed GCP disk-type error and does not include secret or customer payloads.

Chai test selection for bec6efb18f7690c1fe62b965b7a38a17ac5d0d28 → main

  • pull-ci-openshift-origin-main-e2e-gcp-csi

Reason: This PR modifies the GCP regional persistent disk test (test/extended/storage/gce_pd_regional.go) to dynamically determine the regional volume type from the cluster's default StorageClass instead of hardcoding pd-standard. It adds regionalVolumeParams(), refines the machine-family skip to apply only for pd-standard, introduces early skip on CreateVolume disk-type-not-found errors, and rewrites the pod wait loop. Unit tests for the new functions are in gce_pd_regional_test.go (first-stage verified). The test is under [Driver: pd.csi.storage.gke.io] and explicitly skips unless the default StorageClass provisioner is pd.csi.storage.gke.io, making it GCP-only. All AWS, vSphere, and bare-metal jobs lack this CSI driver and cannot exercise the changed test. Selected e2e-gcp-csi: the GCP CSI storage job whose workflow (openshift-e2e-gcp-csi) includes storage-conf-csi-gcp-pd configuration and targets [sig-storage] CSI tests — the only candidate that directly exercises the changed regional disk test on GCP infrastructure.

Thanks for sharing the GCD run. I checked the linked Prow job: its overall result is failure, with the failure in the post phase (ipi-deprovision-deprovision), where the process hit the 1-hour timeout. That does not show that the regional-disk test failed, but the build log I checked does not expose that spec's individual result, so I can't independently confirm it from this run. The PR's e2e-gcp-csi check is green.

Select the effective default StorageClass.

FindDefaultStorageClass in test/extended/storage/storageclass.go:109-129 returns the first matching class. If multiple classes are marked default during a migration, Kubernetes uses the most recently created one. This test can select the wrong disk type or skip a GCP default class. Select the effective default using the same ordering. (kubernetes.io)

Check Hyperdisk HA compatibility for control-plane nodes.

If C3 workers use a hyperdisk-balanced default class, this branch permits pod two to run on an M1 control-plane node in the replica zone. M1 supports Hyperdisk Balanced but not Hyperdisk Balanced High Availability, so attachment fails and the test times out. Check the selected disk type against eligible control-plane nodes, or constrain pod two to compatible nodes. (docs.cloud.google.com)

Review comment at @test/extended/storage/gce_pd_regional.go at line 162:
Update the branch using anyNodeLacksPDStandard to account for the selected disk
type’s compatibility with eligible control-plane nodes: when the class selects
Hyperdisk Balanced High Availability, prevent pod two from running on an
incompatible M1 node, either by checking node compatibility or constraining pod
placement. Preserve the existing checks for other disk types.
