A data type that declares no texts may now name its type with render, and its catalog text is what render writes. sql/raw does so with its sql parameter. The sql/raw@1 codec passes values through unchanged, types them unknown and has no JSON form. Postgres and SQLite register both, and Postgres sends a raw parameter without a cast. …the data type
A column whose data type names its type as the catalog prints it compares
with the text the database reports, not through the alias table, so
Raw("integer") verifies against an integer column and Raw("int4") does not.
SqlColumnIR.typeDiffersFrom holds the comparison for verify and both
planners, and a mismatch names the reported text.
The planner checks an ALTER COLUMN TYPE against the text the column data
type prints. The alterColumnType facade checks a text no other data type
reads as written, when the stack registers such a data type. SQLite writes
such a type as given instead of in upper case.

…data type sql/raw@1 now reads JSON the database returns unchanged, so a raw field works inside an include. Literal values are refused by the data type instead: it declares no casts and its canonical form refuses every value, so a literal default in a hand-written contract is refused at plan. The column IR rule that compares a column with the reported type is now an ordinary field, part of JSON and structural equality. The SQL family contributes the Raw type constructor, not marked inferred, so PSL and the type.Raw helper declare a raw column on every SQL target. The Postgres and SQLite adapters export rawColumn(sql) beside their other column types. A literal default on a raw field is refused by the cast rule in PSL and by the codec in the TypeScript builder. …heck text, one literal refusal - A data type declares nameIsCatalogText; verify, SQLite DDL and the Postgres renderer read it, never the sql/raw id. Such a type has no base name, and its parameters are sent without a cast in every position. - The expected column carries the reported text it expects; two columns that both carry one compare those texts, whichever side is asked. - alterColumnType marks a raw type with raw: true, so it is the one way to get the check text and a misspelt type is still refused. - The data type refuses every literal with CONTRACT.LITERAL_VALUES_ABSENT; the TypeScript builder reaches it through the canonical form, and every path says to write sql`...`. - A raw type text must be one type name: no blank or padded text, no semicolon, comment, dollar quoting, top-level comma or unbalanced parenthesis. The raw codec projects a value in an include through its type output function, as a flat read returns it. The ORM test covers circle, integer, boolean, a list, a null and a value written back as read, and a list element too long for its type is refused, not cut. A raw text is words and double-quoted names separated by single spaces, each optionally followed by parentheses of letters, digits, underscores, commas and spaces, with trailing []. Quotes of other kinds, dollar quoting, operators and a schema are refused. A text of words that adds a column clause, such as integer UNIQUE, is rolled back by the verify that follows the migration. A literal default the data type canonical form refuses is reported as refused by the data type, not the codec. Extension authors are told that TypeScript defaults now pass through the canonical form. Signed-off-by: willbot <w.a.madden+machine@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Will Madden <madden@prisma.io>

A case can say its data type has no literal values; its projection is then compared with encodeJson without a canonical form. Signed-off-by: willbot <w.a.madden+machine@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Will Madden <madden@prisma.io>
SQLite's json_object rejects a BLOB, so the raw projection writes a BLOB as {"blob": <hex>} and the codec's decodeJson reads it back. The SQLite codec test kit covers sql/raw@1.

Before this PR,
Rawtook a plain string (Raw("tsvector")),VarChar("255")was accepted, and a raw type whose name needs double quotes could not be written at all.Decision
Every type-constructor argument that is a value is now a value of a data type, read by the same function that reads attribute arguments (ADR 254, dated amendment). This PR ships:
valueargument kind. A descriptor is{ kind: 'value', dataType: 'pg/int4' }. Every type constructor's lengths, precisions, scales, SRIDs and vector sizes use it:pg/int4on Postgres,sqlite/realon SQLite. Thestring, booleanandstringArraykinds are removed.Rawtakessql`...`. Its argument is a value ofsql/expression, like every other place in a schema that holds raw SQL (ADR 268, amended). This is a breaking change, with upgrade instructions.readWrittenValueAs. The Prisma 7 reader no longer builds arguments from text.assembleDataTypeSupportbuilds the data type lookup and runs its checks for both the control stack and the TypeScript builder, so both refuse the same broken packs. How it fits together
{ kind: 'value', dataType }joinsAuthoringArgumentDescriptor(framework-authoring.ts). PSL reads the argument's expression withreadExpressionAs(read-expression-as.ts), which ends inreadWrittenValueAs(written-value.ts), the same cast rule attribute arguments use.pg/int4.sql.Stringis built per target bysqlTargetTypeConstructors({ sizeType }), so SQLite passessqlite/real.Rawnamessql/expression.__dataTypeArguments({ argument, parameter }per data type), sotype.sql.String(50)still types the column asVarchar<50>. At run time each argument goes through the samereadWrittenValueAs.assembleDataTypeSupport(data-type-support.ts) refuses duplicate data types, value arguments naming an unregistered or unwritable data type, and the other data type checks that need only shared-plane data.contract printandcontract inferwrite each argument with the data type's writer. The Prisma 7 reader passes@db.X(...)arguments with their expressions, and buildsUnsupported("X")and default-mapped types from values.Reviewer notes

Its preset-removal slice deletes those kinds and the text parser behind them; this is agreed with its owner and recorded in deferred.md.VarChar(255.0)is now refused ("got pg/numeric"), as an attribute argument with the same value is. SQLite acceptssql.String(2.0), because its size type issqlite/real. The app upgrade instructions show the rewrite.sqlite/real.definition.dataTypeLookupoverride stays. pgvector's and PostGIS's own contract spaces and about 100contract-tsfixture tests need it. Helper arguments always use the packs' data types; only the contract build can be overridden. VarChar(, 10)). Found in review; it predates this PR and affects attributes too.number,objectandoptionkinds.Alternatives considered
Raw("...")with a plain string. A PSL string has no escapes, so a type whose name needs double quotes could not be written or printed, andRawwould be the one place in a schema that holds raw SQL without thesqltag ADR 268 requires.minimum, maximum) on value arguments. The bounds already live in each data type's parameter schema; a second copy on the argument drifts. nanoid's size limit, the one case that needed it, belongs to its generator.dataType: 'wholeNumber') forsql.String. It adds a small vocabulary of family types, which ADR 254 rejects. Each target passes its own size type instead.sqlite/integerfor SQLite sizes. Its canonical form is digit text, sosql.String(255)would store"255", change contract hashes, and fail the length schema.sqlite/realholds every accepted length exactly.dataTypeLookupoverride entirely. It needs a new input for a contract space's own packs, or a rewrite of about 100 test fixtures; it is recorded as deferred work.Checklist
