Records the decision to keep baron a title. No parser behavior changes: nameparser/vocab/en.toml gains a note on baron's title reading and nothing else, so the compiled vocabulary is byte-identical.

The measurement

baron was given a dated given reading on its own and measured against master a1b3e186 (tools/differential/measure.py --base, 22 steps). It moved 129 local-corpus names, each from title 'Baron' to a name word.

  • Given names, about 58. fec-individuals 30 of 31 (SMITH, BARON P), orcid-researchers 7, patentsview-inventors 4, ctgov-officials 2 (Baron Lonner, MD), the committed snapshot 1 (Baron Davis), psc-individuals 6, and about 8 in jrc-names (Baron Waqa).
  • Titles, about 63. About 45 peers and fictional nobles in jrc-names (Baron Falconer of Thoroton), 15 in psc-individuals, 2 in tse-donors and 1 in ukec-individuals (Baron David De Rothschild).
  • Neither, about 8. Surnames such as Baron Cohen, Baron Crespo (Enrique Barón Crespo) and BARON GHORAB, NEILDA.

PSC's filers type the title into a box of its own, and 15 of the 21 PSC filers typed Baron there, six of them Turkish or Turkmen. That makes the change a net loss. It also undercuts rules/H9's reason for accepting a bare title read as a given name, which holds for US records but not for the UK's.

What changes

  • nameparser/vocab/en.toml: the counts and the reason, in a note on baron's title reading, recorded the same way as judge's.
  • docs/design/decisions/H9-title-phrase.md:
    • A new Log entry with the tally, the agreement figures, two shapes for a later attempt and a recompute recipe. The two shapes are Baron Smith of Kensington and a leading The.
    • A correction to the 2026-11-03 Saint/Pharaoh entry, which had read all 21 moved PSC names as given names.
  • nameparser/vocab/AGENTS.md: a lesson to count a fielded corpus's moves by its filed boxes (local_agreement.py --list), not by reading the names.

A leading The before a title that is a title only inside a phrase (The Marquis de Sade → given 'The Marquis' on master) is being handled separately.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Given a given reading by itself, baron moved 129 local-corpus names:
about 58 given names (FEC 31 of 31) against about 66 titles, mostly
jrc-names' peers and 15 PSC filers who typed Baron in the title box.
Record the decline on the word, in decisions/H9 (correcting the earlier
spike's PSC count), and the lesson in nameparser/vocab/AGENTS.md.

Correct the tally (FEC 30 of 31, the surnames BARON GHORAB and Baron
Crespo counted as neither: about 58 given, 63 titles, 8 neither), six
Turkish or Turkmen PSC filers not nine, the recompute recipe's missing
as_of, a positional pointer, and the AGENTS.md summary.
