.grenrc.js picks a pull request's changelog section from its labels. This brings it in line with the label scheme now used across xml-crypto, node-saml and passport-saml, and brings master level with 6.x's changelog tooling.

  • New sections: deprecation gets Deprecations, after Minor Changes, and tests gets Tests, after Documentation. Until this reaches 6.x, pull requests with those labels land in "Other".
  • Retired names: semver-major, semver-minor, semver-patch and new-feature leave the groups. No merged or open pull request carries them; semver-major became breaking-change.
  • Dependabot badges: javascript, github_actions and java are hidden. They sit next to dependencies and say nothing more.
  • Aligned with 6.x: chore: regenerate the changelog with gren 5.1.1 #601 was merged into 6.x only. This brings its .grenrc.js lines to master: the notes for the CVE-2025-29774 and CVE-2025-29775 fixes, and leaving duplicate pull requests out of the changelog. It also brings chore: regenerate the changelog with gren 5.1.1 #601's gren bump from 5.0.0 to 5.1.1, because commitNotes needs gren 5.1.0. Once this is merged into 6.x, the two branches differ only in CHANGELOG.md and the version number.

The labels

Each pull request has one kind: enhancement, deprecation, bug, dependencies, documentation, tests or chore. breaking-change either stands alone or flags a kind, and security flags a kind. Each label's description on GitHub gives its definition.

The pull requests are already relabelled: all 276 merged or open ones have exactly one kind, or breaking-change alone.

Merging and releasing

  • One conflict when master is merged into 6.x: the ignoreLabels edit sits directly above the lines brought over from 6.x, so git reports a conflict on that line. Taking master's side resolves it, and the resolved file is identical to this branch's .grenrc.js. Everything else merged cleanly in a trial merge.
  • CHANGELOG.md: not regenerated here; the next release does that. A trial run with these groups produced no "Other" section.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Give the `tests` and `deprecation` labels their own changelog sections, and drop the label names that no merged or open pull request carries any more.

The changelog tool excludes the supported Node 16 floor, so release-note generation on that version is not assured. The impact is limited to tooling, but the compatibility contract should be addressed.

node-saml#601 was merged into 6.x only. This brings its `.grenrc.js` lines to master, with the gren bump they need: `commitNotes` arrived in gren 5.1.0 and master pinned 5.0.0. `CHANGELOG.md` stays as it is; the next release regenerates it.
